A new leak test tool Google announced today is “totally useless” and is “a joke” for anyone with a basic understanding of computers and how to use them, according to a user on Reddit.
“If you can’t get it to work, don’t even bother to try it, it’s not worth your time,” wrote user bernieh on the site.
“Its useless.
Its just useless.
It is a joke.
If you can get it working, go out and buy one, otherwise its pointless and will never be useful.”
Google, which has built its reputation on making sure its software is secure, has since clarified that it is not a security tool, but a test that helps developers figure out how their software works.
“The test that you are using today has no effect on the reliability of your Google app,” a Google spokesperson told The Verge in an email.
“We are not releasing the details of the test to protect you, the developer.”
Google’s leak test has been in development since April, and is currently being used on the Play Store.
“You can find the leak test here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.test_leak_test_all”
